Terms of service and sale

1. Purpose

These terms of service and sale (the “Terms”) govern access to the litdeck.app website and use of the Litdeck service (the “Service”), published by Lucas Santoni, sole proprietor (see the legal notice). By creating an account or using the Service, you accept these Terms.

2. The Service

Litdeck turns a digital book into an Anki vocabulary deck: you upload an EPUB or PDF file, the Service analyzes it for free (chapter segmentation, vocabulary inventory), then you pick chapters, a CEFR level, and a translation language, and Litdeck generates an Anki deck (an .apkg file) containing the rarest words of the text, with example sentences drawn from the book.

Cards are produced by large language models (artificial intelligence): despite our checks, they may contain mistakes or approximations.

3. Account

Using the Service requires an account, created with an email address or via Google. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential and for the activity on your account, and you agree to provide accurate information. The account is personal. We may suspend or close an account that violates these Terms, with prior notice except in urgent cases.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • upload unlawful content or content that infringes third-party rights;
  • disrupt or attempt to circumvent the operation, security, or technical limits of the Service;
  • access the Service through unauthorized automated means;
  • resell the Service or the generated decks.

5. Uploaded content

You keep all your rights to the books you upload. By uploading a book, you warrant that you are entitled to use it for your personal study, and you grant Litdeck a limited, non-exclusive technical license to store and process the file for the sole purpose of providing the Service.

Generated decks are intended for your personal study; public or commercial distribution is prohibited.

Rights holders who believe content infringes their rights can report it to support@litdeck.app; we will promptly remove any manifestly unlawful content.

6. Pricing and payment

Analyzing a book is free. Deck generation is a paid service, offered as a subscription. Prices are shown before any payment, in euros or, depending on your country, in United States dollars. VAT not applicable, article 293 B of the French General Tax Code.

Payments are processed by Stripe; Litdeck does not store your card details. Subscriptions renew automatically at each term; you can cancel at any time, with the cancellation taking effect at the end of the current period. A price change only applies to an ongoing subscription from its next renewal, after prior notice.

7. Right of withdrawal

For a distance contract, you normally have a fourteen-day withdrawal period (article L.221-18 of the French Consumer Code). Generating a deck is the supply of digital content not on a tangible medium, performed immediately: at the time of payment, you expressly consent to the immediate performance of the Service and acknowledge that you waive your right of withdrawal (article L.221-28, 13° of the French Consumer Code). This consent is collected through a checkbox at checkout.

8. Refunds

If a generation fails entirely for a technical cause attributable to us, it is not counted against your subscription or is credited back. If a deck is only partially delivered, only the delivered part is counted. If a payment was collected for a service that could not be provided, we refund it upon request to support@litdeck.app.

9. Intellectual property

The Service (software, design, texts, the Litdeck brand) is the property of its publisher. These Terms transfer no rights to the Service other than the personal right to use it. Books remain the property of their authors and rights holders. Anki is an independent project, unaffiliated with Litdeck.

10. Availability and liability

We strive to keep the Service available and accurate, without guaranteeing uninterrupted availability. Cards are generated by artificial intelligence and may contain mistakes; they are a study aid, not an authoritative linguistic reference.

To the extent permitted by law, our liability under the Service is limited to the amounts you paid us over the last twelve months. Nothing in these Terms limits the rights the law grants to consumers, or our liability for gross negligence or willful misconduct.

11. Personal data

How we process your personal data is described in the Privacy policy.

12. Consumer mediation

Under articles L.612-1 and following of the French Consumer Code, every consumer has the right to free recourse to a consumer mediator to resolve a dispute with a business amicably. Litdeck is in the process of joining a consumer mediation scheme; the identity and contact details of the mediator will be published on this page as soon as the membership is effective.

In the meantime, send any complaint to support@litdeck.app; we commit to answering within thirty days.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer, you also benefit from the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of habitual residence. Any dispute not resolved amicably falls to the competent courts under ordinary law.

14. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms, in particular to reflect changes in the Service or in regulation. In the event of a substantial change, you will be informed at least thirty days before it takes effect, by email or in the application. Continuing to use the Service after that date constitutes acceptance.
